Clayton Police Department

Clayton Police

The City of Clayton was organized in 1877 and formally incorporated in 1913. Clayton used a Marshall system until 1920 when the city officially formed the Clayton Police Department, consisting of one police officer.

Today, 104 years later, the Clayton Police Department has 48 commissioned officers and is one of the best educated, highly trained, and most respected departments in the region.

The Clayton Police Department embraces a community-oriented policing approach to public safety. We pride ourselves on the approachability of our officers and welcome input on solving problems in the community. The strong connection with our community helps us to understand its needs and develop effective strategies to promote safety and reduce crime.

In 2000, the Department was among the first law enforcement agencies in the State of Missouri to successfully achieve accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
